Your Dollars at Work: PTA Teacher Grants

The WPES PTA is proud to announce that it has approved almost $4K in teacher grants this Fall for the following:

  • Support for a service learning component for first graders. The expedition will involve purchasing books for a Texas flooded school. Each first grader will make book dedication labels that will go in each book that is purchased. First graders will also create a class book of their personal small moment narrative writing to send to the flooded school.
  • Supplies for third graders to expand on their learning expedition on Ecuador. Students will be writing a non-fiction book about the country and see their own work published. The students will also learn about fair trade and use natural resources to create goods and services to buy, sell, and trade at their market.
  • New professional development material for Ms. Miller & Ms. Sanders called Math in Practice. It identifies the big ideas of math content and best-practice teaching.
  • A Flamenco dance teacher and a first grade Cuban celebration with our Spanish teachers.
  • Soft start” materials for Pitts’ class. She is trying out a new way for students to start their day.
  • Grounded Kids Yoga training for MorrisonSeñora Ramos.
  • Yoga Blocks & Mat Cleaner to support their yoga practice with Coach

Raising Money for WPES Couldn’t Be Easier!

Publix Partners

Do you have your Publix Partners key tags?  Scan your tag every time you shop at Publix and we can earn thousands of dollars.  It’s that simple!  Grandparents and friends living in Georgia can use the tags to earn money for WPES as well!  If you need key tags, they are available at the school office or contact Amy.  Through Publix Partners we received $710 last year.

Kroger Community Rewards

Have a Kroger Plus Card?  Visit: and follow the instructions to match your card to Winnona Park Elementary PTA #77649.  Don’t miss out on earning money for the school.  WPES earned $490 in the last year with this reward program.  Let’s get the household supporter numbers higher!  As of May, only 66 households are currently registered as supporters of WPES.

If you shop at Kroger and don’t have a card, they are available at the customer service desk. Once you receive your card, register as a new customer at  New for this year, supporters no longer have to re-enroll!

AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support WPES every time you shop from the AmazonSmile website!  Go to from the web browser on your computer or mobile device.  Use your existing Amazon account and select Winnona Park Elem PTA as your charitable organization.  Every eligible purchase you make out of millions of products will result in a donation to WPES.  You will want to add a bookmark to to make it even easier to return and start your shopping at AmazonSmile since shopping from the regular Amazon site will not earn the school any money.  WPES earned $311 in the last year through your AmazonSmile purchases.

Box Tops for Education

We’re always collecting Box Tops for Education and have a submission deadline coming up on November 1st!  Look for the logo and cut them off of your purchases all year round.  Each regular Box Top is worth 10¢.  Don’t throw money into your recycling bin!  Drop Box Tops off in the collection box by the front office in the hallway or send them in your child’s book bag.  It is very helpful, but certainly not required, to send the clipped regular box tops to us in bundles (baggie or envelope) of 50.  Last year we received checks for a total of $461.  Hoping to meet this same target or exceed it this year.

Update: WP PTA and GA PTA

Dear PTA members,

In early August, we shared that we would be withholding our member dues to Georgia PTA until we felt confident that steps were being taken to move the organization out of probation and into good standing with National PTA. A new executive committee has since been elected to govern GA PTA, and the president elect, Karen Hallacy, addressed the issues facing the organization:

“It is our goal to rebuild trust at every level, both within the Association and externally. I believe our job is to be as transparent as possible. Moving forward we will be open in our communication and try to respond quickly to address any concerns.

“The first order of business for the newly formed executive committee is to complete the financial audit necessary to meet the requirements of the organization to its constituents. Treasurer, Lynn McIntyre, of Fulton, is working with the team to immediately address this project and restore fiscal confidence.”

On the recommendation of National PTA, we will be submitting our dues to Georgia PTA, according to GA bylaws. Here is a statement from National PTA:

“National PTA encourages all Georgia PTA local units to comply with Georgia PTA’s bylaws. Those bylaws require local units to send both the state and national portion of PTA dues to the Georgia PTA, and dues submission is one of the requirements for a unit to be in good standing. We encourage units to remain in good standing so they are eligible to apply for PTA grants and awards and participate in PTA programs that serve children, families, and schools.

“National PTA continues to work with Georgia PTA to assist them in coming back into compliance with the National PTA Standards of Affiliation. The probation period will not end prior to September 29, 2017, per National PTA policy, and progress is being made toward the goal of removing the probation status.”

If you have further questions, please contact us at

Thank you,

Your PTA Board
