Why a Read-A-Thon?
The Read-A-Thon encourages our children to excel in reading while raising supplemental funds for educational programs and materials at Winnona Park Elementary School. In one week, students gain exposure to excellent literature, while also developing reading skills and new reading habits. We hope that many children will sustain this frequency of reading
throughout the year and beyond.
Read-A-Thon 2017 Calendar
Gather reading sponsors—October 27 – November 2. This is a good time to talk to your child about the Read-A-Thon, set a reading goal and check out books from the library or pick some up at the Fall Book Fair.
Read! Read! Read!—November 3-9. Encourage your child to read as much as they can! Read aloud to your child or take turns reading a book. Help record your child’s time in the Reading Log (provided on 11/4). Your child must complete all reading by 8am, Friday, November 10th for final reading tally. In class minutes will not be counted toward your child’s minutes.
Collect sponsors’ money—November 11 – 16. Send the money to school in the special envelope provided (coming home on November 9). Please submit all cash and/or checks (payable to “WPES PTA”) at the same time, along with your sponsor sheet. You can also pay online via PayPal.
