Book Fair

Twice a year (typically October and March) we hold a Little Shop of Stories book fair. Little Shop selects a collection of books for purchase at the WP library. Children and families have several opportunities to peruse the books during, before and after school with a portion of the sales going to the WP Library Fund. Volunteers are needed during the fair to help the students fill out wish lists, ring up sales, and set up/take down the fair.

Diversity and Inclusion Committee

Seeks to:

  • Educate our community of adults and children on the heart behind matters of race and diversity
  • Initiate previously unexplored and enhance existing conversations around acceptance and understanding
  • Strengthen empathy between families through sharing of traditions
  • Advocate for families and students adversely affected by incidents and concerns of inequity or discrimination

Garden Committee

The garden will continue to thrive this fall! The Garden Committee plans to have a regular workday one evening per week. Day of the week TBD. Everyone is welcome, no garden experience needed. Just show up! In addition, there will be a weekly harvest -- possibly Wednesdays. The Garden Committee will harvest and bag garden produce to be delivered to WP staff. We need families to volunteer to deliver these bags. Each family will deliver 2-3 bags each week. The time commitment should be less than one hour. It is a great way to safely get involved and show appreciation to WP staff.

Grants Committee

Each year, the WP PTA provides grants to teachers and parents for school and classroom improvements or programs. The Grants Committee reviews and recommends the funding requests from WPES teachers, staff and families to enhance the Winnona Park educational mission and learning environment  Historically, the grants committee has held a fall and spring application cycle to consider grant applications, and would then present recommendations to the PTA board for review.  The Grants Committee supports innovation and meaningful educational endeavors within the WPES community.

Fun Run/Tree and Candle Sale Committee

Join your fellow Winnona Park family and friends for a special event that combines a fun run with the Tree Sale on the Winnona Park Field. The fun run starts with a group warmup that is followed by a Tot Trot and "Jog-a-thon" style run for kids and adults. Following the run, shop the tree, wreath, and holiday candle sale. We'll need a lot of helpers to run these events!

Passive Fundraising

Families and friends (don’t forget to tell grandparents!) of Winnona Park can help raise funds for PTA initiatives by registering with corporate give-back programs. WPES earns funds when registered shoppers make purchases with corporate partners including Amazon, Box Tops for Education, Kroger, Publix, Mabel’s Labels, and Minted. Read-a-thon Committee

Winnona Park's annual Read-a-Thon is a school-wide fundraising event supporting our kids in developing a love of reading and strong reading habits. Over the course of a week, students will log minutes spent reading (or having someone read to them) and collect pledges from friends and family through their own personal event webpages.  Read-a-Thon is one of Winnona Park’s most important school fundraisers, supporting many important PTA initiatives throughout the year.

Snow Cone Social

Each spring our PTA hosts a snow cone party out in the back field. Fun for the whole family!

Spirit Wear Committee

The Winnona Park Spirit Wear Committee designs products (t-shirts, hoodies and water bottles) for students and families to display their Winnona Park pride! Volunteers can work on the design, sales or distribution.

Variety Show Committee

Each year, Winona Park hosts a talent show so the kids can show off their stuff!

Walk and Roll/Safe Routes to School Committee

Every second Wednesday of the month Winnona Park families walk or roll (bike/scooter, etc.) to school as a fun way to increase activity in our students/parents day and help us feel better while decreasing car traffic and local pollution. There is coffee and music and opportunities to get to know other WPES parents/families/friends. Last year, our community had an average participation over 60 percent. We also serve as the liaison/advocates for Winnona Park with the City of Decatur, County, and State Safe Routes to School Initiatives.

Yearbook Committee

The Winnona Park Yearbook Committee is responsible for creating a book that captures the fun, exploration, and hard work our students, staff, and community put into WPES each year. The committee consists of the yearbook chair, the second grade tribute manager, and most importantly, volunteer photographers and photo contributions by parents throughout the school year.
