Black History Family Event

Please join us on Wednesday, February 28th at 6:30 pm in the WP cafeteria for our Black History Month Family Event.  This is a student-led living museum followed by a live cultural performance and a parent open forum on “How to Speak to Your Child about Multiculturalism and Diversity.”

We would be delighted to have you join us in celebration of this year’s Black History Month! If your student is interested in participating in the Living Museum, please fill out the sheet attached to this document and return it in your student’s Communication Folder by Thursday, February 15th (feel free to make a copy of the sheet in order to help your student practice their facts over Winter Break).

WPES Community Diversity Quilt–Celebrating the Women Behind Gee’s Bend Quilts

On Friday February 16th, we will also begin collecting 6×6 inch fabric squares from students to celebrate the cultural works of the women from Boykin “Gee’s Bend,” Alabama, and have our very own WPES Community Diversity Quilt made. You can learn more about Gee’s Bend at http://www.soulsgrowndeep.org/gees-bend-quiltmakers.

These squares will be collected starting Friday, February 16th until 6:30pm on Wednesday, February 28th at the Black History Month Event.
